About Section 80 Tax Planning
A clear overview, in simple terms — what it is, why it matters, and how we handle it.
Deductions such as 80C (₹1.5 lakh), 80D (health insurance), 80CCD(1B) (extra ₹50,000 for NPS) and home-loan interest (₹2 lakh) only help in the old regime. In the new regime, almost the only deductions are the ₹75,000 standard deduction and employer NPS contributions under 80CCD(2) (up to 14% of salary). The right plan starts with which regime saves more.
Many people buy insurance or ELSS in March for a deduction they can't use because the new regime is better for them. Others stay in the new regime when their HRA, home-loan interest and 80C together would save more under the old one.
We compute both regimes with your actual salary and expenses, then plan only the investments that make sense for you, and suggest salary changes worth asking your employer for — employer NPS contributions, for example, still reduce tax in the new regime.
Under the Income-tax Act, 2025 the section numbers change from tax year 2026-27, but the deductions themselves largely carry over.
