Indus Tax is a CA-led Indian tax and compliance firm offering online ITR filing, GST, NRI tax, DTAA, FEMA, company registration, accounting and audit support across India and for global NRI clients.
Which ITR form should I file in India?
Most resident salaried taxpayers with simple income use ITR-1; individuals with capital gains, NRI status, foreign income or multiple complex schedules usually use ITR-2; business or professional income generally uses ITR-3 or ITR-4 depending on presumptive taxation.
Is GST registration mandatory for my business?
GST registration may be mandatory when turnover crosses the applicable threshold or when compulsory-registration conditions apply, such as certain inter-state supplies, e-commerce scenarios or reverse-charge cases.
What is the GSTR-3B due date?
For monthly GST filers, GSTR-3B is generally due on the 20th day of the month following the tax period. Quarterly QRMP filers generally follow 22nd or 24th due dates depending on state group.
How is NRI residential status decided for Indian tax?
NRI residential status is mainly decided using day-count tests under Indian income tax law, along with special rules for Indian citizens, persons of Indian origin and returning individuals.
What is DTAA relief?
DTAA relief helps reduce double taxation when the same income is taxable in India and another country, but it depends on the treaty, income type, tax residency certificate, foreign tax proof and Indian filing requirements.
Has the ITR due date been extended for AY 2026-27?
Yes, but only for tax-audit cases. CBDT Circular No. 07/2026 (28 September 2026) extended the tax audit report due date from 30 September to 21 October 2026 and the ITR due date for audit cases from 31 October to 21 November 2026. The 31 July 2026 due date for non-audit taxpayers was not extended; they can still file a belated or revised return until 31 December 2026.
How much does a CA consultation cost at Indus Tax?
Indus Tax has three CA consultation plans for India: ₹255 for a priority call-back (a qualified CA calls within 30 minutes during working hours for a 15-minute call), ₹755 for a 30-minute consultation at a time you choose, and ₹1,155 for a 60-minute in-depth review with documents read beforehand and a written action plan. The fee is adjusted against your service fee if you go ahead within 30 days. NRI consultations cost ₹1,499 to ₹7,499.
How does Indus Tax work?
Message Indus Tax on WhatsApp or call with what you need. Within 2 working hours you get a document checklist and a fixed quote. A qualified CA then reviews your documents, computes the tax and prepares a draft, which is filed only after you confirm it. The whole process is online, so it works for clients anywhere in India or abroad.
How much does it cost to file an ITR with a CA in India?
At Indus Tax, CA-reviewed ITR filing costs ₹999 for salaried income, ₹1,999 for salary plus investments, ₹2,999–₹5,999 for freelancers and business income, ₹3,999–₹7,999 when there are capital gains from shares, mutual funds or crypto, and ₹5,000–₹12,000 for NRIs. You get a fixed quote before any work starts.
How much does NRI ITR filing cost in India?
Indus Tax files NRI income tax returns for ₹5,000 to ₹12,000 depending on complexity: rent or interest income alone is at the lower end, while a property sale, DTAA relief or several income sources cost more. If you need advice first, paid NRI consultations cost ₹1,499 to ₹7,499.
How do I choose a CA for NRI taxes in India?
Choose a CA team that regularly handles NRI cases (residential status, DTAA relief, property-sale TDS and repatriation forms), gives a fixed written quote before starting, works fully online across time zones, and stays with you for notices after filing. Check the CA's membership on the ICAI website before you pay.
Does an NRI need to file an income tax return in India?
Yes, if the NRI's taxable income in India for the year is above the basic exemption limit — ₹4 lakh under the new tax regime or ₹2.5 lakh under the old regime for FY 2025-26. NRIs should also file to get back excess TDS (common on property sales and NRO interest) or to carry forward capital losses, even when their income is below the limit.
Can an NRI file and e-verify an Indian ITR from abroad?
Yes. The return is filed online on the income tax e-filing portal and must be e-verified within 30 days of filing. NRIs without an active Indian mobile number usually e-verify through net banking or a pre-validated bank or demat account; a Digital Signature Certificate also works, and a signed ITR-V can be sent to CPC Bengaluru by speed post as a last resort.
What TDS applies when an NRI sells property in India?
The buyer must deduct TDS before paying an NRI seller: 12.5% plus surcharge and 4% cess if the property was held for more than 24 months, or 30% plus surcharge and cess if held for 24 months or less. Buyers usually deduct it on the full sale price, so NRIs often apply for a lower or nil deduction certificate — Form 128 from 1 April 2026 (formerly Form 13) — before the sale.
How are NRE and NRO accounts taxed in India?
Interest on an NRE account is tax-free in India for NRIs, and the balance is fully repatriable. Interest on an NRO account is taxable in India, with TDS of 30% plus surcharge and cess (or the lower DTAA rate if you give the bank a tax residency certificate), and repatriation from an NRO account is capped at USD 1 million per financial year.
How long does GST registration take in India?
Once the application is filed and Aadhaar authentication is done, the GST officer usually approves it within 7 working days. It can take up to 30 days if the officer orders physical verification of the business premises or Aadhaar authentication is not completed, and longer if the officer raises a query. Indus Tax files the application within 1 working hour of receiving complete documents.
What happens if I miss the ITR filing deadline?
You can still file a belated return — for FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27) until 31 December 2026 — but you pay a late fee of ₹5,000 (₹1,000 if total income is ₹5 lakh or less), interest of 1% per month on any unpaid tax, and you generally cannot carry forward business or capital losses.
What is ITR-U and who can file an updated return?
ITR-U is the updated return form used when you missed income or made an error after the normal, belated or revised return window has closed. From AY 2026-27, an updated return can generally be filed within 48 months from the end of the relevant assessment year, but it is not meant for claiming a refund, increasing a loss or reducing tax already due.
Why is GST registration asking for biometric verification?
The GST portal can route new registration applicants to OTP Aadhaar authentication or to a GST Suvidha Kendra for biometric Aadhaar authentication and document verification based on risk parameters. If biometric verification is triggered, the applicant must book a slot, visit the designated centre with original documents and complete verification before approval.
Can an NRI use ITR-1 for AY 2026-27?
No. ITR-1 for AY 2026-27 is for eligible resident individuals only. NRIs commonly use ITR-2 when they have India-source income such as rent, NRO interest, dividends or capital gains, and ITR-3 when business or professional income is involved.
