About Business ITR
A clear overview, in simple terms — what it is, why it matters, and how we handle it.
Business income is reported in ITR-3 for proprietors and professionals keeping books, ITR-4 for those using presumptive taxation, ITR-5 for firms and LLPs and ITR-6 for companies. A tax audit is required above ₹1 crore turnover (₹10 crore if cash transactions are within 5%) or ₹50 lakh professional receipts. Companies can pay 22% under the concessional regime, and firms and LLPs pay 30%.
A business return starts with the books: profit and loss, balance sheet, depreciation under tax rules, disallowances for unpaid statutory dues and late payments to MSME suppliers, and the reconciliation of turnover with GST returns. Officers compare all of these.
We check whether presumptive taxation would be better, whether a tax audit applies, and whether losses can be carried forward. Then we prepare the computation, the return and, for audit cases, coordinate the audit report before the return.
For FY 2025-26, audit cases have until 21 November 2026 to file, with the tax audit report due by 21 October 2026.
| Forms | ITR-3 (books), ITR-4 (presumptive), ITR-5 (firms/LLPs), ITR-6 (companies) |
|---|---|
| Presumptive | 44AD: 6%/8% of turnover; 44ADA: 50% of professional receipts |
| Tax audit | Turnover > ₹1 crore (₹10 crore if cash ≤ 5%); professionals > ₹50 lakh |
| Rates | Companies 22% (concessional) + surcharge and cess; firms and LLPs 30% |
| Due dates (FY 2025-26) | 31 July 2026 non-audit; 21 November 2026 audit cases |
