About GST Annual Return

A clear overview, in simple terms — what it is, why it matters, and how we handle it.

Quick answer

GSTR-9 is the yearly GST return that reconciles a GSTIN's monthly returns for the financial year. For FY 2025-26 it is due on 31 December 2026. It is optional for aggregate turnover up to ₹2 crore, and businesses above ₹5 crore also file GSTR-9C, a self-certified reconciliation of audited books with GSTR-9. It can't be revised once filed.

The annual return is where a year of small differences surfaces: sales in books that never reached GSTR-1, credit claimed in GSTR-3B that isn't in GSTR-2B, credit notes issued after the cut-off, and reversals that were never made. Officers use GSTR-9 and 9C to select cases for scrutiny, so what you report here matters.

Because GSTR-9 can't be revised, we reconcile first: books against GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B month by month, credit against GSTR-2B, and the HSN summary against the sales register. Any extra tax is paid through DRC-03 before filing, which keeps interest low and shows good faith.

Where GSTR-9C applies, we prepare the reconciliation from your audited financial statements and explain every difference in the form itself.
