GST answer

Why is GST registration asking for biometric verification?

The GST portal can route new registration applicants to OTP Aadhaar authentication or to a GST Suvidha Kendra for biometric Aadhaar authentication and document verification based on risk parameters. If biometric verification is triggered, the applicant must book a slot, visit the designated centre with original documents and complete verification before approval.

Detailed answer

Biometric verification is part of risk-based GST registration checks. It is meant to reduce fake registrations and fraudulent input tax credit claims.

The portal may send either an OTP authentication link or a slot-booking link to the registered mobile number and email of the primary authorised signatory and selected promoter or partner.

If the applicant does not complete the required authentication or verification, the application can be marked for site visit or delayed until the officer completes checks.

Indus Tax prepares the application, checks documents before filing and tracks ARN/query status, but the biometric visit itself must be completed by the applicant named by the portal.
