About NPS Tax Planning
A clear overview, in simple terms — what it is, why it matters, and how we handle it.
NPS gives an extra ₹50,000 deduction under Section 80CCD(1B) in the old regime, and employer contributions up to 14% of salary under 80CCD(2) are deductible even in the new regime. At exit, 60% of the corpus is tax-free; since December 2025 non-government subscribers can take up to 80% as a lump sum, with at least 20% in an annuity, and the annuity income is taxable.
For many employees in the new regime, employer NPS is the single most useful salary-restructuring option. We check whether your employer offers it, how much it saves, and how it fits your retirement plan.
| 80CCD(1B) | Extra ₹50,000 (old regime) |
|---|---|
| 80CCD(2) | Employer contribution up to 14% of salary (new regime) |
| Exit lump sum | 60% tax-free; non-government subscribers may take up to 80% since Dec 2025 |
| Annuity | Minimum 20% for non-government subscribers; annuity income taxable |
