About Trademark Renewal & Restoration
A clear overview, in simple terms — what it is, why it matters, and how we handle it.
A registered trademark is valid for ten years and can be renewed indefinitely for further ten-year periods using Form TM-R, which can be filed up to a year before expiry. The government fee is ₹9,000 per class (e-filing). A late renewal within six months after expiry is allowed with a surcharge; after that, a mark removed from the register can be restored only through a restoration application within the time the rules allow.
Renewal is easy to forget because it comes once a decade. A lapsed mark weakens enforcement and lets competitors file similar marks. We docket renewal dates for every mark you own and file well before expiry.
Renewal is also a good moment to check that the registered owner, address and goods still match your business — changes are recorded separately.
