About TDS Return Filing
A clear overview, in simple terms — what it is, why it matters, and how we handle it.
Anyone deducting TDS must pay it by the 7th of the next month (30 April for March) and file quarterly statements by 31 July, 31 October, 31 January and 31 May. From 1 April 2026 the statements have new numbers under the Income-tax Act, 2025 — Form 138 for salary, 140 for other residents and 144 for non-residents (formerly 24Q, 26Q and 27Q). Late filing costs ₹200 a day.
TDS defaults are expensive and automatic: late-filing fees of ₹200 a day, interest at 1% to 1.5% a month on late deduction or payment, and short-deduction demands raised by the TRACES system when PANs are wrong or rates are misapplied.
We tell you which payments need TDS and at what rate — salaries, contractors, professionals, rent, commission, purchases above thresholds, partners' remuneration — prepare challans, file the quarterly statements and issue Form 16 and 16A.
Any default notice from TRACES is reviewed and corrected through a correction statement.
