About MSME Registration
A clear overview, in simple terms — what it is, why it matters, and how we handle it.
A Udyam certificate opens doors that matter to small businesses: priority-sector bank lending, collateral-free loans under the CGTMSE guarantee scheme, preference in government tenders, and the right to be paid on time.
That last benefit is the most valuable. Buyers must pay micro and small suppliers within the agreed period, capped at 45 days (15 days if nothing is agreed), or pay compound interest at three times the RBI bank rate. And under Section 43B(h) of the Income-tax Act, a buyer can't deduct unpaid dues to a micro or small enterprise until it actually pays — so registered suppliers get paid faster.
Registration is free and you can do it yourself. Our fee covers getting the activity codes and classification right, linking it to your PAN and GSTIN, and updating it each year so the classification stays correct.
MSME registration is done on the government's Udyam portal and is free. It needs the Aadhaar of the proprietor, partner or director, and the business PAN; investment and turnover are taken from income-tax and GST records. From 1 April 2025 a micro enterprise has investment up to ₹2.5 crore and turnover up to ₹10 crore, a small one up to ₹25 crore and ₹100 crore, and a medium one up to ₹125 crore and ₹500 crore.
| Portal and fee | udyamregistration.gov.in; free |
|---|---|
| Micro | Investment ≤ ₹2.5 crore and turnover ≤ ₹10 crore |
| Small | Investment ≤ ₹25 crore and turnover ≤ ₹100 crore |
| Medium | Investment ≤ ₹125 crore and turnover ≤ ₹500 crore |
| Payment protection | Buyers must pay micro and small suppliers within 45 days |
| Income-tax | Section 43B(h): buyer's deduction only on payment |
