Form 26AS and AIS Download: Step-by-Step Guide with PDF Passwords (2026)
Form 26AS shows the tax credited against your PAN; AIS shows the income the department already knows about. Download both before you file — here is how, with the PDF passwords.
Official portal: Income Tax e-Filing Portal
Indus Tax is a private CA firm, not affiliated with the Government of India. This guide explains the official process; we never ask for your portal password.
Form 26AS, AIS and TIS — the difference
All three are free and available on the e-filing portal:
| Statement | What it shows | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Form 26AS | TDS, TCS, advance tax and self-assessment tax paid against your PAN | Matching tax credits before filing |
| AIS (Annual Information Statement) | Salary, interest, dividends, share and mutual fund transactions, property purchases, foreign remittances, GST turnover and more | Checking that you report all income |
| TIS (Taxpayer Information Summary) | Category-wise summary of AIS used to pre-fill your ITR | A quick check of pre-filled figures |
How to download Form 26AS
Form 26AS opens on the TRACES website through the e-filing portal:
- 1Log in at incometax.gov.in.
- 2Go to e-File > Income Tax Returns > View Form 26AS and click Confirm — you are redirected to TRACES.
- 3Accept the terms and click View Tax Credit (Form 26AS).
- 4Select the assessment year, choose View As HTML, and click View/Download.
- 5Click Export as PDF. The PDF password is your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format.
How to download AIS
AIS has its own section on the portal:
- 1Log in at incometax.gov.in.
- 2Open Services > Annual Information Statement (AIS) and click Proceed.
- 3Open the AIS tab and select the financial year.
- 4Download AIS or TIS as PDF, JSON or CSV.
- 5The PDF password is your PAN in lower case followed by your date of birth in DDMMYYYY — for example abcde1234f01011990.
Wrong entry in AIS? Submit feedback
AIS is built from reports by banks, employers, registrars and others, and errors happen — duplicate interest entries, transactions that belong to someone else, or sale value reported without cost. Open the entry in AIS, choose the option to add feedback and pick the right reason (information not fully correct, relates to another PAN, duplicate, and so on). The reporting entity is asked to confirm or correct it. Keep screenshots — mismatches between AIS and your return are a common trigger for notices.
New form numbers from 2026
Under the Income-tax Rules, 2026, which apply from 1 April 2026, Form 26AS is renumbered Form 168 and the salary TDS certificate Form 16 becomes Form 130. Statements for FY 2025-26 and earlier may still carry the old names on the portal. The steps to reach them are the same.
