About DRC-03 Voluntary Payment & DRC-03A Linking
A clear overview, in simple terms — what it is, why it matters, and how we handle it.
Form DRC-03 is used to pay GST voluntarily — for example tax short-paid in earlier returns, ITC reversals found on reconciliation, or amounts you accept in response to a notice or audit. Paying before a notice reduces penalty exposure. If a demand order is later issued for the same amount, Form DRC-03A links the earlier DRC-03 payment to the demand so the portal doesn't show it as unpaid.
DRC-03 payments must carry the correct cause (voluntary, SCN, audit, others) and the period, and interest should be paid along with the tax. Payments made with the wrong cause are a common reason demands still appear outstanding.
GSTN introduced DRC-03A because DRC-03 payments were not automatically adjusted against demand orders. Linking is done by the taxpayer on the portal against the specific demand ID.
