About LEI Code Registration & Renewal
A clear overview, in simple terms — what it is, why it matters, and how we handle it.
A Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) is a 20-character global code that identifies a legal entity in financial transactions. The RBI requires non-individual borrowers with aggregate bank exposure of ₹5 crore and above to have one, as well as entities making RTGS or NEFT payments of ₹50 crore and above and cross-border capital or current account transactions of ₹50 crore and above. In India it is issued by Legal Entity Identifier India Ltd (LEIL) and must be renewed every year.
Banks block renewal or enhancement of credit facilities when an LEI has lapsed, so annual renewal matters as much as the first registration. The LEI record also includes parent-entity information, which must be kept accurate.
We file the application with LEIL, provide the entity and ownership details, and track renewals.
| Issuer in India | Legal Entity Identifier India Ltd (LEIL) |
|---|---|
| Borrowers | Required at aggregate exposure of ₹5 crore and above |
| Payments | RTGS/NEFT of ₹50 crore and above |
| Cross-border | Transactions of ₹50 crore and above |
| Validity | 1 year, renewable |
