DPIIT (formerly DIPP) is the government body that issues Startup India recognition certificates. Benefits of DPIIT recognition: exemption from angel tax under Section 56(2)(viib); eligibility for Section 80-IAC income tax holiday (3 consecutive years); self-certification under 9 labour laws and 3 environmental laws; fast-track patent application; easier government procurement. Eligibility: entity must be incorporated as Pvt Ltd, LLP or partnership; less than 10 years since incorporation; turnover not exceeding ₹100 crore in any year; working towards innovation, development or improvement of products/services.
