DIN (Director Identification Number)
Unique 8-digit number assigned to every director of a company in India.
Full Definition
Director Identification Number (DIN) is a mandatory unique identifier for every director of a company incorporated under the Companies Act. DIN is obtained through the MCA portal before a person can be appointed as a director. It must be mentioned in all company documents, filings, and on company letterheads. A person can hold only one DIN. DIN can be surrendered if the director resigns from all directorships. Without an active DIN, a person cannot serve as company director.
