# Industrial Design Registration

> Design registration under the Designs Act, 2000 protects the visual features of a product — its shape, configuration, pattern or ornamentation — not how it works. The design must be new and not previously published, and registration lasts ten years, extendable once by five more (fifteen in total). It is filed with the Patent Office with representations of the product.
