# FSSAI Licence Renewal & Annual Fee

> Under FSSAI's 2026 reforms, licences and registrations stay valid as long as the annual fee is paid; missing the fee suspends the licence. If your licence on FoSCoS still shows a fixed expiry date, renew it before that date. Either way, the fee is ₹100 a year for basic registration, ₹2,000–₹5,000 for a state licence and ₹7,500 for a central licence.

Older FSSAI licences were issued for one to five years and had to be renewed before expiry, with a late fee for renewals filed in the last 30 days and lapse after expiry. FSSAI's 2026 reforms replaced periodic renewal with continuing validity linked to payment of the annual fee.

In practice two situations exist in 2026: licences that FoSCoS shows under the new annual-fee model, and older licences still displaying an expiry date until they migrate. We check which applies to each of your premises and either pay the annual fee or file the renewal on time.

If a licence has already lapsed or been suspended for non-payment, you must stop operations at that premises until it is restored or a fresh licence is issued — selling food without a valid licence is an offence under Section 63 of the FSS Act.

## FAQs

### Do FSSAI licences still expire in 2026?

Under the 2026 reforms licences remain valid while the annual fee is paid. Some older licences may still show an expiry date on FoSCoS until they move to the new model — renew those before the date shown.

### What happens if I don't pay the FSSAI annual fee?

The licence is suspended. Operating with a suspended licence is treated like operating without one.

### My licence expired last month. Can I renew it?

A licence that has lapsed generally cannot be renewed; you apply for a fresh licence and should not operate the premises in the meantime. We prepare the fresh application quickly using your existing documents.

### Should I re-check my tier when renewing?

Yes. If turnover moved across ₹1.5 crore or ₹50 crore, you may need a different tier rather than a renewal.
