# FSSAI Licence Modification & Product Addition

> Any change to the details on an FSSAI licence — new food products or categories, a change in partners or directors, production capacity, or the name and address particulars — must be applied for as a modification on FoSCoS. Selling a product that isn't covered by your licence's food categories is a compliance breach even if the licence itself is valid.

Practice: FSSAI Food Licence — https://www.industax.com/services/fssai/

FSSAI licences list the food categories and products you are allowed to handle. Launching a new product line in a different category, starting manufacturing where you only traded before, or adding a new kind of activity requires a modification before you start.

Changes in the people responsible — partners, directors, the nominated person under Section 17 — and changes in capacity or equipment also need modification so the licence matches reality during inspections.

A change in the physical premises is different: a new location is a new premises and generally needs a fresh licence, not a modification. Products that are not standardised under FSSAI regulations may need product approval under the non-specified food regulations before they can be added.

## FAQs

### Can I sell a new product before the modification is approved?

No. The product must be covered by your licence's food categories before you manufacture or sell it.

### We moved to a new warehouse. Is that a modification?

Usually not — a new premises needs its own licence or registration. A change in the description of the same premises can be a modification.

### Do I need product approval for a new product?

Only if the product or an ingredient is not standardised under FSSAI regulations (a non-specified food). Standardised products just need to fall within your licensed categories.

### We changed directors. Do we need to update FSSAI?

Yes. Changes in directors, partners or the nominated person should be updated through a modification so the licence matches your current management.
