# CMA, Cost Audit & Cost Accounting Services

> Cost and management accounting covers how a business measures, controls and reports the cost of its products and services. Under the Companies (Cost Records and Audit) Rules, 2014, companies in notified sectors must maintain cost records once turnover reaches ₹35 crore, and larger ones must get a cost audit by a practising Cost Accountant. Separately, banks ask for 'CMA data' (Credit Monitoring Arrangement) — projected financials — before sanctioning working-capital loans.

## Who this is for

- Manufacturers in sectors notified under the Cost Records and Audit Rules
- Companies crossing ₹35 crore turnover (cost records) or the cost-audit thresholds
- MSMEs applying for working-capital or term loans that need CMA data
- Businesses whose margins are falling and need product-level costing
- Founders building budgets, variance reports and pricing models

## FAQs

### What is the difference between 'CMA data' and a CMA (Cost Accountant)?

CMA data is the Credit Monitoring Arrangement format banks use to assess loan proposals — historical and projected financials, ratios and fund-flow. A CMA is a Cost and Management Accountant, a member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), who alone can sign a statutory cost audit report.

### Is cost audit applicable to my company?

Only if your company is in a sector notified under the Companies (Cost Records and Audit) Rules, 2014 and crosses the thresholds: ₹50 crore overall turnover with ₹25 crore from covered products for regulated sectors, or ₹100 crore with ₹35 crore for non-regulated sectors. Cost records start at ₹35 crore turnover.

### Who signs the cost audit report?

A practising Cost Accountant (a member of ICMAI holding a certificate of practice). Indus Tax works with partner Cost Accountants for statutory cost audit; our team prepares the records, reconciliations and filings around it.
