# ICEGATE Registration & AD Code

> ICEGATE is the customs e-filing portal where importers, exporters and customs brokers file bills of entry, shipping bills and related documents. Registration needs an IEC and a digital signature certificate. Exporters must also register their bank's Authorised Dealer (AD) code with customs at every port they export from, so that shipping bills are linked to the bank for realisation of proceeds and export benefits.

Many exporters work through a customs broker who files for them, but ICEGATE registration still matters for tracking documents, paying duty online, and claiming refunds and drawback. AD code registration is mandatory before the first export from a port.

### What is an AD code?

A 14-digit code issued by your bank (the Authorised Dealer) that identifies the bank account where export proceeds will be received. It must be registered with customs at each port of export.

### Do I need ICEGATE if I use a customs broker?

The broker can file on your behalf, but registering yourself gives you visibility of filings, duty payments and refunds, and is needed for some services.
